See the GDG Algiers members' participation in JunctionX!

GDG Algiers members have always marked their presence in big events and Hackathons. This year JunctionX Algiers had a big share of that, with the participation of gdg members in three different teams, where they have shown a great performance and one of them won the first place!

Let’s take a look at their solutions:

Dalili:

Dalili is an orientation and information platform designed to guide visitors of the Great Mosque of Algiers- مسجد الجزائر الاعظم. The platform will be accessible via Technology Moborne terminals installed in the main intersection points such as the main portal, “المركز الثقافي”, “قاعة الصلاة”, ”المكتبة “and other locations.

Whether you are there for a visit, prayer, or as a tourist, Dalili will help you by ensuring the best possible experience while visiting the Great Mosque of Algiers.

The platform provides the user with useful information about the different buildings, upcoming activities, and helps them find the best way to their destination.

Dalili aims to revitalize the experience of visitors and tourists in cultural sites by making them more ludic and immersive.

The platform was made by the X-eptions team consisting of Aymen berriche, Ayoub khenfouf, Amir Almamma, Ouael Sahbi, Sohaib Zouambia.

Finally, you can check out the platform, its source code, and its amazing design!

dzFeat

On the other hand, the dzFeat Team has worked on Techmology challenge. The problem consisted of finding and coding an idea for their touch screen terminal called Moborne, which can be used for various applications such as flight reservations in airports or at a commercial center to give a map of the area … etc

The solution was to integrate a 3d food ordering customization service in restaurants. The Moborne can be placed on the restaurant’s tables, customers can customize and order what they want to eat with no need for the waiter’s service. While they are waiting for their order to arrive, they can play a simple game!

This idea requires two parts, software and hardware, The software consists of a web app with a nice user interface. For the hardware part, an Arduino can be used to make the 3rd projection.

Abdelkader Lounis, Abdelahak Mehadjbia, and Sofiane Meghazi were the dzFeat team members. They could make a part of the web application during the hackathon. You can check this GitHub repo for the code and d this video for a better understanding of the solution.

Hamood APP

For this participation our GDG Algiers Co-organizer and WTM Algiers Project Manager, Yousra Farhani is sharing her experience in junction Algiers with her team consisting of Anis Rouen , Merouane Kanoun, Walid Rayes , Semcheddine Asma Belkis, and in that matter she said:

Three days without sleeping, 48 hours of non stop hacking. This was my experience with JunctionX Algiers 2021, where my team and I “Binary fold” worked so hard to get the first place in the hackathon.

I coincidentally joined that team of ambitious spirits, we worked together and we had so much fun, for moments I felt that I knew them for years.

We chose Hamoud Boulaam’s challenge. It was kind of risky since we were so limited with the requirements of the company that asked participants to create an app that helps distributors, shopkeepers, and clients to get the company’s products easily from anywhere. Our challenge wasn’t that in reality, it was about how we can make an app that fits all the business needs and at the same time, the users’ needs since a normal user like us won’t be interested to use an app just to see what are the available products of the company and where to find them. I did my UX research and I empathize with real users and distributors to figure out their real needs and desires and spot their problems in order to create a product that perfectly corresponds to their needs.

We finally decided to make a three-profile mobile application that works in both android and IOS devices and it was in both languages Arabic and French. For the distributors’ part, we developed many functionalities like stock management, online delivery for clients and delivery track… etc, as well as for shopkeepers to manage their stocks, make analysis about the product the most consuming in their area, make online delivery of products and participate in the different challenges of Hamoud.

For the user’s part, we developed many interesting functionalities, where users can buy a product online in a few clicks by chatting with a chatbot that talks and understand ‘Darija’, they can search for a product and see its availability in the nearest shop in their zone, they can also see the different challenges and promotions, rate products and send feedback for the company, In case there is no specific product in the area the user can send an auto notification so that distributors will figure out that there is no product and try to deliver it to the shopkeepers in the fastest way possible. Our user can play “ Flip The Bottle game ” using a Hamoud product, if he gets 10 points he can have the product he played with for free by taking the QR code to the nearest shopkeeper to scan it and take his gift.

The design of our app as well as the overall user experience were so desirable, so easy, and intuitive to use, and the architecture of our product was well maintained. The app was secure and users don’t need much data to create their accounts except a phone number and a user name.

We were so proud since we made it to the final round of the hackathon and we will be representing Algeria in JunctionX Finland next September. Overall Junction is a very beautiful opportunity for everyone who wants to make the change and create impactful solutions. You will live such unforgettable moments, meet a lot of new people and develop many skills.

That was it for our members’ participation in this hackathon, congratulations on the great work you’re doing, we wish you all the luck for your next adventure!
